Gabriele Gravina, President of the Italian Football Federation, said that Luciano Spalletti, the head coach of the Italian national team, will continue to work with the team.
"We fully trust Spalletti, we will move forward with him. We had no right to expect to win the European Championships with guys who had never played in the national team before. We won the European Under-17 Championship, but none of these guys have ever played in the main team of the country," journalist Nicolo Scira quoted Gravina as saying.
It will be recalled that Spalletti took over the Italian national team in August 2023. Under his leadership, the Italians made it to Euro 2024. At the tournament, the team started in Group B along with Spain, Croatia and Albania. After three rounds played, Italy scored four points and took second place in the Group B standings. In the match of the 1/8 finals of Euro 2024, the Italians lost to Switzerland (0: 2) and left the tournament.
