Borussia Dortmund publication BVB Buzz has published its version of the club's anti-rating of players in its history who have failed to live up to fans' expectations.
A total of four players were listed, with Ukrainian Andriy Yarmolenko, who played for Borussia Dortmund from the summer of 2017 to the summer of 2018, listed third.
"Andriy Yarmolenko is a player that Borussia Dortmund fans will remember for all the wrong reasons. He was signed in 2017 for 27 million euros (transferred from Dynamo Kiev - ed.), which is a significant amount for the club in the context of investing in one player. Yarmolenko tried his best to justify this price. Of course, players do not control the amount they are signed for, but they control their play on the pitch.
Yarmolenko only lasted one season at Borussia Dortmund before he was sold to West Ham. It was a shame, but Borussia made that transfer in time.
Yarmolenko is a player with clearly great potential, which he showed by shining in the Ukrainian league for several seasons in a row, but he looked different in Germany. He had plenty of opportunities to make a name for himself in front of goal, but more often than not his skill failed him.
Perhaps things would have changed if Yarmolenko had stayed and increased his efforts, but alas, there is no way to know that anymore. Unfortunately, then he became a reliable option for West Ham in the APL," - so commented the publication Yarmolenko's inclusion in the anti-rating.
We would add that in addition to the Ukrainian, the list of players who did not meet expectations at Borussia included Ciro Immobile, Mario Goetze (second arrival in the team) and Andre Schürrle.
