During the broadcast of the quarterfinal match of Euro-2024 between Portugal and France, a French flag with the inscription "Mirages for Ukraine" was noticeable on the stands. It depicted an airplane in the form of a coffin.
This drawing refers to the military aid that the French president has promised to Ukraine. In early June, Emmanuel Macron announced that Ukraine would receive Mirage airplanes by the end of 2024. However, he did not specify their number.
On the flag of France, the plane was depicted in the form of a coffin - a design created by the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The illustrations were distributed along with a message that if Macron sent French troops to Ukraine, they would return in coffins.
The banner was subsequently removed from the stands. It was no longer visible in the second half.
