Kyiv Dynamo, having passed Scottish Rangers (1:1, 2:0) in the third qualification of the Champions League, are now one round away from the main stage of this tournament: if the Bilo-Syni manage to defeat Austrian Salzburg in the play-off round of qualification, they will get a coveted ticket to the main stage of the Champions League.
As a reminder, from this season the Champions League no longer has a 32-team group stage: from now on, the main stage of the tournament will be represented by a single league of 36 teams.
According to the format of the competition, each of the participants of the main stage of the Champions League will play 8 matches against different teams: 4 at home and 4 away.
The draw for the Champions League main stage will determine the eight opponents for each of the 36 teams. For this purpose, before the draw procedure, the participants will be divided into 4 baskets with 9 teams in each basket. During the draw, each team will receive two opponents from each basket and will play one home and one away match against the teams from each basket (with whom exactly at home and with whom away will also be determined by the draw).
UEFA club coefficients will be traditionally used to form the baskets. "Dynamo will be placed either in the third or in the fourth basket if they qualify for the main stage of the Champions League.
In order for Dynamo to be in the third basket, in the play-off round of the Champions League qualification Danish Middtjyllandn (Denmark) must pass Slovakian Slovan (Slovakia). If this does not happen, Kyiv will be in the fourth basket in any case.
If we assume that Dynamo will pass Salzburg, and the teams with higher UEFA club coefficients will be the winners in the remaining pairs of the play-offs of the Champions League qualification round, the preliminary composition of the baskets at the Champions League main stage draw will look as follows.
