Well-known Ukrainian journalist Andriy Shakhov told us what he expects from the return match between Austrian Salzburg and Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League qualifying round playoffs to be held today in Salzburg. As a reminder, the first meeting between the rivals ended in a 0-2 defeat for the Ukrainian team.
"I propose to return to the first match between these teams. I decided to watch it again, even though I've never been seen suffering from masochism.
What I saw again was even more shocking. Dynamo had 11 shots on goal against the Austrian vice-champion, and 10 of those shots could have resulted in goals! TEN! I looked at the xG indicator, which estimates the probability of each shot becoming a goal. So, five shots had a coefficient higher than 0.2 (which is a fairly high probability of a goal), and four more were between 0.1 and 0.2. And this list does not include Popov's shot against the bar!
10 chances and 0 goals! It turns out that this is possible... Such statistics once again emphasize that Dynamo's performance in the Polish "home" match was let down by the realization. Salzburg's defense is passable, they can score, and I can't imagine that Dynamo will miss so many chances in the second match in a row.
Unfortunately, Dynamo has never in its history advanced after a home defeat by two goals. Moreover, if Kyiv lost 0-2 at home, they usually lost on the road (the exception was 0-0 with Valencia), but Kyiv had never beaten Rangers either on the road or away. Everything happens for the first time. Let's believe that such a "first time" will happen in Salzburg on Tuesday," Shakhov was quoted as saying by the Bankova Mail telegram channel.
