Last Friday, the Romanian national team played their first match under their new head coach, ex-Dynamo Kyiv coach Mircea Lucescu: in the first round of the 2024/25 Nations League, the Tricolors defeated Kosovo 3-0.
The 79-year-old specialist also led the Romanian national team from 1981 to 1986. Thus, Lucescu returned to the bench of the national team, which he had previously coached, after 38 years and 17 days.
In this respect, the Romanian broke the record of the legendary Brazilian coach Mario Zagallo, who returned to the bench of the Brazilian national team after 20 years and 170 days (July 6, 1974 - December 23, 1994).
