Famous Ukrainian coach and authoritative expert Oleh Fedorchuk explained the reason for the major defeat of Lviv Karpaty in the match against Shakhtar Donetsk (2:5), which took place in the 6th round of the Ukrainian championship.

Nevertheless, when a large group of players are involved and prepare for the national team, it is quite risky to trust them with a place in the starting lineup.
Therefore, I thought that the Lviv coaching staff, taking into account all these circumstances, will opt for the right tactics, taking into account the capabilities of the wards and the strength of the opponent. For some reason, coach Vladyslav Lupashko decided to adopt the first-choice game and ball control, which, I am sure, was very much to the Pitmen's liking, who skillfully used the free space in Karpaty's possession.
Ball control, except for statistics, had already failed the Ukrainian national team in the game against Romania at Euro 2024 and in the recent match against Albanians in the Nations League. But Vladyslav Lupashko and his assistants decided to experiment and paid the price. And it's good that only five goals were conceded, there could have been many more. Also, we should not forget that Lviv scored their second goal near the end of the game, when Shakhtar had already lost momentum.
How not to remember that last season Oleksandriya also often relied on ball control, but it did not bring them any significant dividends. In the current championship, the citizens, who are about on the same level as Karpaty, changed their tactics and started to use more vertical passes. This has been beneficial: Oleksandriya are at the top of the standings and, incidentally, recently, acting from defense, scored four goals against Shakhtar, celebrating a well-deserved victory.
