The legendary Dynamo football player, winner of the Ballon d’Or in 1975 Oleg Blokhin celebrated his birthday surrounded by family and loved ones in Kyiv.
«If the date is not a round number, I usually celebrate my birthday in a narrow family circle,» shares one of the former players and coaches of Kyiv’s Dynamo—«But when it’s a milestone, I gather friends. In foreign countries where I’ve played and coached—in Austria, Cyprus, and Greece—I had no friends like I do in Ukraine. I consider this the most valuable thing.»
According to Oleg Blokhin, his Dynamo career coincided with three matches on his birthday. By a remarkable coincidence, all of them were European Cup matches:
«The first time I played as a birthday boy was for Dynamo in 1974 against German Eintracht, and the second time was the following year against Icelandic Akranes,» he recalls. «The third match was in 1986 in Kyiv against Scottish Celtic, where I managed to score one goal from a penalty and provide two assists.»
