The former coach of ‘Werder’ Viktor Skrypnyk explained why he once refused to play for Kyiv’s ‘Dynamo’.
«I have always been lucky with coaches. I was lucky when Sihiev rode by on his bicycle and noticed me in the yard. I was lucky when Romaniuk took me to the boarding school, bringing me closer to Dnipro. I was very lucky with Nadeyin, who took me to the team when I was only seventeen.
Pavlov believed in me and invited me back to ‘Dnipro.’ And six months later, when he went to ‘Dynamo,’ he called me there. Why didn’t I go to ‘Dynamo’? I didn’t want to. I wanted to play in ‘Dnipro.’ It’s my team, and I loved it.
You know, when I was taken to the team, I arrived at the suburban base in Prydniprovs’k and immediately signed three blank sheets instead of a contract. They said: salary this much, equipment and food. I didn’t care what I was signing, the main thing was to be in ‘Dnipro.’ I don’t think I made a mistake by saying ‘no’ to ‘Dynamo.’ I felt comfortable in ‘Dnipro,’ — said Skrypnyk.
