The head coach of Lviv’s «Rukh», Vitaliy Ponomarev summarized yesterday’s match of his team against Donetsk’s «Shakhtar» (1:1) in the 15th round of the Ukrainian championship.
«As of today, the team, considering its age, lacks stability, and that’s quite normal. We can play a high-quality match against «Shakhtar», and then «Rukh» has a poor performance against conditional outsiders.
But today I am grateful to the guys for this game, as not every team can force «Shakhtar» to play defensively.
I believe that in the second half we completely outplayed our opponent, so such a result is well-deserved. «Rukh» was better in terms of intensity, played more qualitatively, and created more chances. The team played with three central defenders until the 60th minute, and after the 60th minute switched to a more attacking 4-3-3 formation.
We knew that «Shakhtar» would not be in the best physical condition after the Champions League match, so we prepared for this. Hence, we wanted to add precisely in this period – to play more intensely in the second half. Besides the goal from a set piece, the opponent had virtually no goal-scoring chances in this match. I am convinced that both tactical schemes justified themselves. The substitutions also strengthened the game,» said Ponomarev.
