Vincenzo Company’s team unexpectedly lost at home, conceding the only goal from «Bayer» in the second half. However, the main episode of the match occurred early in the encounter: in the 17th minute of the game, Munich's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer misplayed while coming out, knocking down the visiting midfielder Jeremy Frimpong outside the penalty area. The main referee immediately showed Neuer a straight red card.
After being left with a player less for almost the entire match, the Munich giant ultimately could not achieve a positive result for themselves, being eliminated from the German Cup in the 1/8 finals.
