On Thursday, December 5, the draw procedure for the first round of Euro 2026 qualifying (U-17) took place in Nyon, Switzerland.
54 teams were divided into 12 groups of four participants and two groups of three participants. The host of the final part, the Estonia national team, will also participate in the qualification.
According to the results of the first round of qualifying, 14 group winners and 14 teams that finish second will advance to the second round in League A. The remaining 26 teams will participate in the second round in League B.
Teams that reach the second round of qualifying in League A will compete in the spring of 2026 for all the spots in the final tournament of Euro 2026 (U-17). Estonia as the tournament host received a qualification spot automatically. It should be noted that the qualifying round in League A is also a qualifying round for the World Cup 2026 (U-17) in Qatar.
Moreover, teams from both leagues in the second round of qualifying will compete for promotion and relegation between leagues before the first round of Euro 2028 (U-19) qualification.
The Ukrainian youth national team (currently U-16, players born in 2009) was placed in Pot B based on the UEFA ranking for this age category before the draw of the first round of Euro 2026 qualifying (U-17).
As a result of the draw, the blue and yellows found themselves in Group 1, where they will face Italy, Montenegro, and Estonia.
