Without Viktor Tsygankov, Girona was eliminated from the 1/32 Copa del Rey by 4th division team Logroñés. However, what is even more impressive is how the underdog managed to pull off a miracle.
Photo: RTVEAs reported by the Telegram channel "Bombardir", after a stalemate with 0-0 for 90 minutes, the game went into extra time where Logroñés goalkeeper Enrique Royo suffered a concussion and had to leave the pitch.
Since all substitutions had been used, 19-year-old home defender Pol Arnau—a son of former Barcelona and Malaga goalkeeper Francesc Arnau—took over in goal. The lad made several saves and helped his team reach the penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Arnau saved a penalty from the top scorer of the youth Euro, Abel Ruiz, and did not concede after a shot from Girona's main legend, Cristian Stuani.
Thanks to this, Logroñés won 4-3 and knocked out La Liga bronze medalists from the Copa del Rey! The main hero of the confrontation, Pol Arnau, who won the penalty shootout, was celebrated just as high as his father once was.
