The Munich “Bayern” officially announced the permanent retirement of the number 5 in memory of the legendary player Franz Beckenbauer.
“Dear Franz, you made the club what it is today: a synonym for the greatest success, a unique style, and deep humanity. As a player, coach, president, and friend. You gave “Bayern” the charisma that prevails even today.
Dear Franz, we miss you. But what remains for us and unites us is the memory of you. Beckenbauer will remain unattainable; he will forever remain our “Kaiser”.
The number 5 will always be reserved for this unique legacy, as our club and its history are simply unimaginable without Franz,” quoted Bayern president Herbert Hainer by the press service of the Munich club.
Let us remind you that Beckenbauer passed away on January 7, 2024. The famous footballer played for “Bayern,” winning the “Ballon d'Or” twice, four times winning the championship and the German Cup, three times obtaining the European Champions Cup, and was the holder of the Cup Winners' Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. As a coach, “Kaiser” Franz won the German championship and the UEFA Cup.
