Drewes fell to the ground, and Bochum’s doctors rushed in to assist him. He left the field with the help of 2 team coaches. It is reported that he was taken to the hospital directly from the stadium.
The chief referee of the match Martin Petersen decided to suspend the match, and the teams left the field to go to the locker room. The game was resumed after 28 minutes from the moment of the incident.
“In our opinion, the game should have been stopped. We finished the match despite the protest and will file an appeal on Monday,” said Illya Kentsig.
Referee Martin Petersen also commented on the situation: “I asked the teams to go to their locker rooms so everyone could discuss what happened. There were debates about whether it was possible to continue the game. We resumed the match when it became clear that player safety was guaranteed. Both teams agreed to continue the game. I will write a report on this matter.”
