Former Ukrainian striker Sergey Chuychenko explained why the results of Kyiv’s Dynamo in the Ukrainian championship and the Europa League this season contrast so sharply.
“Dynamo simply has a small bench to play in the UPL and in European cups. Because of this, the 'white-blues' were somewhat lacking players for the Europa League. Kyiv had injured players, and also Shaparenko and Pikhalyonok missed matches. And these are still leaders who could help the team in important matches.
Also, perhaps Dynamo had a greater motivation for the Ukrainian championship to win it. And because of this, they probably lacked strength for the Europa League matches.
And Shakhtar, on the contrary, performed fairly well on the European stage, but in the Ukrainian championship in the first half of the season, honestly, they performed poorly. For as long as I can remember Shakhtar, this is probably their worst season,” said Chuychenko.
