In February 2024, changes among the coaches of Ukraine’s youth national teams were announced. They also affected the team composed of players born in 2005.
Photo: uaf.uaFrom its very first day, it was led by Oleg Kuznetsov, under whom the team passed the qualifying round for the Euro-2024 U-19, but in March 2024, the squad was completed by Dmytro Mykhailenko for the elite round of qualification.
It turned out remarkably well — three victories in three matches with a total score of 8:0, thanks to which Ukraine reached the final tournament of Euro-2024 U-19.
At the end of April, a short home training camp took place, during which the coaching staff reviewed the closest reserves of the team. During the camp, a friendly match was held with “Dіnaz” (0:0).
The performance of the U-19 team of Ukraine began with two scoreless draws in July at the European Championship, and in the last round of the group stage, a victory was necessary, namely — against Italy. However, this task was accomplished by Mykhailenko's team to the fullest, reaching the semi-finals (the fifth occurrence in the history of our U-19 teams), and at the same time earning a spot at the U-20 World Cup, which will take place in Chile in 2025 (also the fifth occurrence in our history).
And the goalkeeper Vladyslav Krapyvtsov, who recently signed a contract with Spanish “Girona,” and in the spring represented “Dnipro-1,” entered the symbolic team of Euro-2024 U-19.
