On this day in 1986, outstanding Dynamo forward Igor Belanov was recognized as the best footballer in Europe by France Football, receiving the "Ballon d'Or". Belanov, with 84 points, surpassed legendary figures such as Gary Lineker (62 points), Emilio Butragueño (59 points), Manuel Amoros (22 points), and Preben Elkjaer-Larsen (22 points).
The award was presented to Belanov on March 18, 1987, in Kyiv before the quarter-final match in the Champions Cup against Istanbul's Beşiktaş.
