Zagreb’s Dynamo announced on its official website the appointment of Fabio Cannavaro as the head coach of its first team.
Fabio CannavaroIn this position, the 51-year-old Italian specialist replaced Nenad Bjelica, who had coached Dynamo for only three months since the end of September this year.
However, Cannavaro also did not last long at his previous club, Udinese: under this coach, the team played only six matches.
It is reported that the reason for such rotation was the team's results in the current Croatian championship, which did not meet the club's management expectations (after 18 rounds, Dynamo is in third place in the standings, trailing the leaders Rijeka and Hajduk by seven points).
“Unfortunately, results are the most important thing in football, and in the last 11 rounds of the Croatian championship, we achieved only 4 victories and have one of the worst scoring streaks in the national league.
It’s never the best time to change a coach, but we decided to take this step now so that the new coach has time to convey his ideas to the players during the pre-season preparation and to ensure everyone is ready at the moment the championship resumes.
The new head coach knows what goals lie ahead for him at Dynamo and understands the situation the club is in. The main task is to return to the top of the standings and continue to show good results in Europe,” said Dynamo's sports director Marko Marić commenting on Cannavaro's appointment.
According to unofficial information, Cannavaro's contract with his new club is until 2026.
