Roma head coach Claudio Ranieri revealed what prompted him to start Lorenzo Pellegrini in the starting lineup for the Roman derby against Lazio (2:0) and give him the captain's armband.
"Pellegrini came to talk to me the day before the match, and I understood that he had a tremendous desire to be the captain of Roma in the derby. I couldn’t wait for him to say it because we, as coaches, try to motivate players and demand more from them. I put him in against Milan and told him that it was a disappointing performance, but today I was convinced that he would succeed.
A goal is in his blood; he is one of the best Italian midfielders when it comes to scoring. I just felt that his mood before the game was exactly what I needed," said Ranieri to DAZN.
