On this day, January 27, the legendary midfielder of "Dynamo", coach Valentin Belkevich was born.
Valentin BelkevichValentin Belkevich (1973-2014) — former Belarusian midfielder of Kiev "Dynamo". Seven-time champion of Ukraine. He brilliantly interacted with the striking duo Shevchenko-Rebrov, forming the "killer" triangle of "Dynamo". For the playing model that Valeriy Lobanovskiy embodied, Belkevich became an essential element of the system known as "Dynamo" — he was the connecting link between the reliable and solid defense of the Kyiv team and the mobile attack led by Shevchenko and Rebrov.
He organized the lion's share of the swift and decisive counterattacks that became the signature style of "Dynamo" in the late 90s. Until the end of the 2013-2014 season, he served as the head coach of the Dynamo youth team. He passed away on August 1, 2014, from a thromboembolism.
