Former Shakhtar defender Oleksandr Kucher expressed his opinion on the chances of Ukrainian clubs making it to the main round of the European cups in the upcoming season.
«We understand that these are such times now that our clubs find it very difficult to compete honorably on the European stage. This has been evidenced by the performances of Kyiv’s „Dynamo“ and Donetsk’s „Shakhtar“. This is all due to the fact that the level of our championship is very weak, and this fact must be acknowledged.
As long as we do not level the Ukrainian championship and make it stronger in terms of gameplay, competing in European club tournaments against any opponents will be remarkably difficult. The fact that we lost direct qualification to the group stage of the Champions League is proof of that. Paving our way through qualification matches will be no easy task. Yes, „Shakhtar“ and „Dynamo“ may face stronger opponents among the „seeded“, although even at early stages there are no easy teams», — said Kucher.
