Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, who received a red card for insulting the referee in yesterday’s La Liga match against Osasuna (1:1), may face a lengthy suspension, reports Marca.
Jude BellinghamAccording to the publication, under La Liga regulations, any form of insult directed at the referee is punishable by a suspension of 4 to 12 matches.
It is added that the reason for Bellingham’s dismissal was that he “sent” the referee off in an obscene manner. However, after the match, Real's head coach Carlo Ancelotti stated that the referee misinterpreted what the player said. “I think the referee didn’t understand Jude’s English. He said ‘to hell with it’, and not ‘screw you’. That’s completely different,” explained the coach.
Bellingham himself stated that he insulted no one and did not even address the referee: “I didn’t even say it directly to the referee, I said it to myself. It was a misunderstanding, a clear mistake by the referee.”
