Head coach of Bayer Xabi Alonso has improved yet another personal record in the German championship.
Xabi AlonsoAfter the victory over Holstein with a score of 2:0, he became the coach with the longest unbeaten streak in away matches in the championship—28 games in a row, reports DPA.
Thus, Alonso surpassed the achievement of the legendary Udo Lattek, who remained unbeaten in 27 away matches while working with Bayern and Schalke, according to the official Bundesliga website.
The last defeat in the championship away for Bayer was in May 2023, losing to Bochum 0:3. After that, the team lost only once in the Bundesliga—a 2:3 loss at home against RB Leipzig in August 2024.
In addition, Bayer announced that this success made Alonso the first coach in the club's history to achieve victory over every opponent he faced in the Bundesliga—a total of 21 teams.
