At the age of 66, former Kyiv Dynamo footballer and coach of the Dynamo Youth Sports School Serhiy Zhuravlyov has passed away. On behalf of the club, Dynamo president Ihor Surkis expressed his condolences regarding the death of Serhiy Mykolayovych.
Serhiy ZhuravlyovWith a deep sense of sorrow, I received the sad news of the death of Serhiy Mykolayovych Zhuravlyov.
He was an important player on the championship team of Valeriy Lobanovskyi in the early 80s, being one of the most talented defenders of his generation. Two championships and the USSR Cup were achieved with Zhuravlyov's direct participation, but he is most remembered by fans for his experience with the youth national team that became European champions in 1980.
Serhiy Mykolayovych left an even greater legacy as a coach, nurturing young talents at the Dynamo Youth Sports School in Kyiv for many years. Many of his pupils have been considered among the most talented players in domestic football over the years, and many of them are still playing for Ukrainian and foreign clubs.
On behalf of all Dynamos and personally, I express my deepest condolences to the family of Serhiy Mykolayovych, all his relatives, and close ones. May the earth be his pillow, and may the memory in the hearts of those who knew, valued, and loved him remain. The good memory of Serhiy Zhuravlyov will forever stay with us.
President of FC Dynamo Kyiv
Ihor Surkis
