Forward of Kyiv’s “Dynamo” Matviy Ponomarenko summed up the match against Luhansk “Zorya” (2:2) in the 21st round of the Ukrainian championship, in which he scored his team’s second goal.
Matviy Ponomarenko— Did you expect “Zorya” to create so many difficulties, considering that the opponent had personnel issues?
— Yes, we expected it, as all teams prepare particularly well to take points away from us. “Dynamo” strives to become champions, and we don’t have easy matches. It is unpleasant to lose points. I managed to score, but it’s a pity that this goal did not bring victory to the team. We need to analyze this game and avoid making such mistakes in future matches.
— At the beginning of the first half, three goals were scored in 9 minutes, what was your reaction to this?
— We did not expect to concede so early in the second minute, but we equalized immediately — 1:1. It was a crazy start to the match, but we needed to win.
— It’s rare that almost every attack ends with a goal, right?
— At the beginning of the match — yes, such things are rare in football, especially in Ukraine.
— When you scored, Kabayev assisted you; can we say that the substitutions worked well?
— Yes. The coach probably felt what needed to be done, who should be changed — we came on and scored, but unfortunately, this turned out to be not enough.
— Recently, “Dynamo” drew with “Vorskla”, now with “Zorya” — did this affect the mood within the team?
— Yes, the mood is not very good. But we have everything to fix the situation and become champions this year.
