The head coach of the Belgian national team, Rudi Garcia, commented on his choice of players called up for the matches against the national team of Ukraine in the playoff of the Nations League for the right to compete in Division A of this tournament in the following season.
Rudi Garcia“Since we have two suspensions for the first match against Ukraine (forward Lois Openda and defender Timothy Castagne, — ed. note), I called up two additional players. In addition, I brought in an additional goalkeeper to be able to work better during training.
In this Nations League, our squad indeed had experienced guys who are currently unavailable. However, I am convinced that we can count on them in the future. Over the past few weeks, I have been closely monitoring all the candidates to form a clear idea of which players should be called up for these two matches.
We have a smart and versatile group of footballers, so we can play in different formations. Of course, I already know how we will play against Ukraine, but I can't say anything more because I don’t want to make the opponent wiser. Moreover, it's not all obvious yet, as many of our players will be playing for their clubs this weekend, and that means that on Monday we will have to focus mainly on recovery. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will work on our tactical plan, and then we will get to the essence and clearly explain to the players what we want to see from them on the field,” Garcia's words are reported by HBVL.
Let us remind you that the first match between Ukraine and Belgium will take place on March 20 in Murcia, Spain, and the return match will be held on March 23 in Genk.
