The National Guard of Ukraine fighter Volodymyr Shevchenko defended Mariupol from the Russian onslaught in the first months of the war. In May 2022, he, together with his comrades, was captured.

Volodymyr Shevchenko, with the call sign "Sheva," was liberated from captivity in May 2024. In total, he spent 771 days in captivity.
After returning home, the defender of "Azovstal" met with UAF President Andriy Shevchenko. The legendary football player gifted Volodymyr a jersey with the number 7 and the surname Shevchenko.
Andriy Mykolayovych promised to invite the National Guard of Ukraine warrior to one of the national team matches. The dream was realized during the victorious match in Murcia.
