Former FIFA referee and now authoritative expert Myroslav Stupar spoke about referees’ mistakes in the matches of the 23rd round of the Ukrainian Championship, which took place last weekend.
Myroslav Stupar“In the match “Koloss” — “Rukh”, referee Kubryak did not notice a player elbowing the player of the Lviv club Slyusar before the break and not only did not punish the “Koloss” player with a yellow card, but also did not record the violation at all. Slyusar did not come out for the second half due to injury.
Unfortunately, Kubryak moved poorly on the field and could have simply missed this game episode. At the end of the match, the VAR system came to his aid. At first, he awarded a dangerous free-kick against “Rukh”, however, after reviewing the video, he realized that Slyubik’s hand was pressed to his body and that the ball hitting it was not a reason for punishment, and rightly canceled his decision.
VAR also helped referee Kopievsky in the match “Polesie” — “Karpaty”, when he was informed that Kostenko handballed in his penalty area. By converting the penalty, the home team equalized the score at the end of the match. However, in the last attack of the guests, the home goalkeeper Kudrik was late to exit and hit the head of striker Neves with his fist, who managed to hit the crossbar.
The penalty is obvious, but Kopievsky for some reason did not record the foul by the goalkeeper. The VAR referee Romanov did not inform him that he needed to correct the mistake. I agree, the penalty still needs to be converted, “Karpaty” deserved it,” said Stupar.
