On Friday, April 18, as part of the 25th round of the Ukrainian Championship, Kyiv’s “Dynamo” defeated “Obolon” with the score of 3:0 in the capital derby. The match took place in Kyiv at the “Dynamo” stadium named after Valeriy Lobanovskyi. We present you the post-match press conference of the head coach of the capital team, Oleksandr Shovkovsky.
— Why was the first half so difficult for your team?
— First of all, I congratulate the “Dynamo” fans on this important victory. To be frank, the score does not reflect the course of events on the football field. When we analyzed the game of “Obolon”, we focused on the actions and movements of the players of this team, and in this aspect, we should have played more organized. First of all, in the phases when we controlled the ball. And during ball losses, we should have positioned ourselves correctly on the football field. In this regard, we had shortcomings. As a consequence, we allowed our opponent to make rapid counterattacks. We could have conceded a goal at the beginning of the game. “Obolon” created certain problems for us, to be honest.
It is good that during the execution of a set piece, our “home preparation” worked. This goal affected our actions. At half-time, we made some remarks, but this goal relieved the pressure. I think everyone sees how tough matches are at this stage for different teams, for the favorites, and how they affect the situation in the standings.
It was important for us to win today. I am satisfied with the match result, but I have questions about the quality of the game. We move forward.

— Is it already known how many matches Popov will miss for his red card in Kryvyi Rih?
— As far as I understand the regulations, for a red card shown for a last hope foul, one match disqualification is imposed.
— When you played, you often faced Shyshchenko as a footballer. Was it easier then or now?
— We have met with Serhiy Shyshchenko as colleagues in the coaching sphere not for the first time. He has very interesting developments. So I can only wish him to implement the ideas he has.
I don’t remember how it was when I was a player. That is in the past. Sometimes I feel like it was in some other galaxy. (Smiles).
