FIFA President Gianni Infantino hypocritically stated that the health of players remains the most important thing, despite concerns about the expansion of tournaments in an already overloaded football calendar.

— This is a tournament that is held once every four years. The winner plays seven matches — this is on average only one and a half matches more per year, so the impact is not significant, — said Infantino. In world football, the problem is that very few teams play a lot of matches. Those that reach the final stages of all tournaments, which, again, does not happen that often... Overall, there is a certain balance. But we are very attentive to the calendar and to the health of players. We want to do everything to ensure that footballers have the best conditions for the highest quality play… Many players tell me themselves — they want to play, not just train.
