In the middle of the week, the second leg matches of the quarter-finals of three European tournaments took place. Slight changes occurred in the UEFA coefficient table.
Slovenia has completed the European season. The club Celje was eliminated from the Conference League, but it brought additional points to its country. Before the quarter-finals of the Conference League, Slovenia was ahead of Ukraine in the table for the next season by 0.243 points. After the matches with "Fiorentina" (1:2 at home and 2:2 in Italy), this advantage grew to 0.493 points. The Slovenians will have almost half a point buffer ahead of the Ukrainians at the start of the new European season— and they are the main competitor of the blue-yellow team among the countries currently higher in the ranking.
Only two teams from non-elite championships remain in the European cups— "Bodø/Glimt" (Norway) in the Europa League and "Djurgården" (Sweden) in the Conference League.
"Bodø/Glimt", despite losing to "Lazio" away, won in the penalty shootout and did not get eliminated from the tournament, earning a bonus point for the club ranking. The Norwegian club (49.000) has closed the gap to Shakhtar (52.000) to three points in the battle for the top 40 in the club ranking. "Bodø/Glimt" will play against English "Tottenham" in the semi-finals of the Europa League, while "Manchester United" will face "Athletic" Bilbao.
"Shakhtar" can receive a direct ticket to the main round of the Europa League if several factors align:
- winner of the Ukrainian Cup (or 2nd place in UPL if "Dynamo" wins both the Cup and the championship);
- the winner of the Conference League 2024/25 qualifies for the Champions League or Europa League through the national championship;
- "Shakhtar" remains the club with the highest coefficient among the participants in the Europa League qualification.
The identity of the Conference League winner plays an important role. If the trophy goes to "Chelsea," which is almost guaranteed to finish in the Champions League or Europa League zone in the EPL— this is a great scenario for "Shakhtar." The triumph of "Real Betis" or "Fiorentina" (who will compete against each other in the Conference League semi-finals) could also be favorable, provided they reach the European competition zone (Champions League or Europa League) in Spain or Italy respectively. However, a possible victory for Swedish "Djurgården" in the Conference League is not suitable for the miners. But it will be very difficult for the Swedish club to get past "Chelsea" in the Conference League semi-finals.
