Former forward of Donetsk "Shakhtar" Oleg Matvievev assessed the coaching skills of the current mentor of the "miners" Marinho Pushich.
Oleg Matvievev— It’s interesting, does Marinho Pushich know that the last time "Shakhtar" was worse than now in the final standings was 29 years ago?
— That was when I was still playing (smiles). They probably told him about it. A coach should know the history of the team he is coaching. It’s clear that you can’t win all the championships. But it turns out that the team has not dropped below second place since 1996. It’s hard to come to terms with that now. Yes, sometimes "Dynamo" is stronger, but for "Oleksandriya" to be above them…
— What mistakes do you think Marinho Pushich made?
— It’s hard for me to judge him without being inside the team, but let’s say, in the Champions League, the lineup often changed, such cases were also in the championship. It was hard to determine the core lineup. That didn’t happen, for example, under Mircea Lucescu. Artem Bondarenko plays sometimes, sometimes he doesn’t, the same can be said about Dmytro Kryskiv.
I can’t say that Pushich is a weak coach, which means something is happening with the microclimate. You can’t take third place in such a championship of Ukraine. Especially considering that "Shakhtar" will miss the Champions League next season.
