The legendary player of Kyiv’s “Dynamo”, one of the leaders of the “golden team”, which in 1975 won the first European trophy — the Cup Winners’ Cup, Leonid Buryak talked during an interview with the club television about the components of that team’s success.
Leonid Buryak“Each of the teams that achieved historic victories and trophies — in 1961, 1975, 1986 — was like a sprinkle of diamonds. There were many players in “Dynamo” who played at the national team level. The Kyiv club has always been a flagship of domestic football.
They say that in our times there was not such fast football. Then tell me, who in Ukraine runs faster than Oleg Blokhin of 1975? And who now does endurance tests like they did in those times? Back then, they were not footballers, but horses.
There’s much to remember about those times — matches for the Cup Winners’ Cup, the European Super Cup. When we played the first match against “Bayern”, there were 102 thousand spectators in the stadium and one million two hundred thousand ticket applications.
I remember how we celebrated the first Cup Winners’ Cup. When our plane circled before landing over Boryspil, we could already see how many people were waiting for us. Those emotions are unforgettable,” said Buryak.
