Former head coach of Cherkasy LNZ Oleg Dulub shared his impressions of the final match of the Cup of Ukraine, in which yesterday in Zhytomyr Kyiv’s “Dynamo” met Donetsk’s “Shakhtar” (1:1, — pen. — 5:6).
Oleg Dulub“After all, this is the final. There is such a saying: ‘Finals are usually not played — finals are won.’ This is a simple rule. It should be taken into account that, for example, ‘Shakhtar’ needed at least some trophy this year because they lost the championship.
We need to understand the kind of nervous tension both teams are under. Both ‘Dynamo’ and ‘Shakhtar’ really wanted to win, this was evident throughout the match. Overall, if we take the psychological and technical-tactical drama, we could give the teams a solid four on a 5-point scale.
As for the goal conceded by ‘Shakhtar’, it is basically a standard situation — an entry into the opponent’s flank defender zone and a pass back to the support zone. Bondarenko literally didn’t play half a meter, maybe less. This support zone has been weak for ‘Shakhtar’ throughout the season. The quality of the pre-goal pass played a big role. Although I emphasize again the quality cross from the flank — and how Yarmolenko realized the moment. It worked like Swiss watches — one, two, three.
And Shakhtar’s goal is already a trend, a very quality cross. The defender just needed to finish it. But, I repeat, it was a quality cross. At the end, during the added time of the second half, there was a similar moment, but the forward just couldn’t reach it.
The same problems that ‘Dynamo’ had during the season manifested in this match — crosses, play along the plane of the goal of the two central defenders and the distant flank defender. Therefore, we can talk about systemic errors,” Dulub said.
