Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta admitted that at the start of the season he imagined lifting the Premier League trophy above his head in the final home match.

“If I had to visualize this moment at the start of the season, it would have been like this: we are playing the final home match of the season and lifting the Premier League trophy. That was what was in my mind. I think, considering everything we have gone through in the last 11 months, we can all be proud of ourselves, but that pain in the stomach is still present because we did not achieve what we wanted.
What is the main reason for this? Red cards and injuries, of course. But we do not know what it would have been like without them. Would we have been much closer? In my opinion, it is so clear, considering the game we showed. But we are going to do something else next season because the bar will be higher.”
If you look at our points tally in the last three seasons, you very rarely go without a title with such consistency. Therefore, we are very close, close in terms of probability, and we need to be persistent and keep getting better,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
