UEFA has approved a new qualification system for Euro 2028 — hosts are no longer guaranteed places in the final part, informs the Telegram channel "Biy-bizhyi".
— 12 groups of 4-5 teams, as in the previous qualification.
— All tournament hosts (England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) will also participate in qualification — but in different groups.
— 20 teams qualify directly for Euro: 12 group winners + 8 best second places.
— 2 places are reserved for hosts who do not qualify directly (will be given to two of them with the best ranking).
— The playoff remains, but now the number of participants depends on how many hosts utilize the "spare" places:
If 2 hosts received places — 8 teams in the playoff for 2 spots. 1 host received a place — 12 teams in the playoff for 3 spots. No host utilized a place — 8 teams compete for 4 spots.
The detailed regulations will be published by the end of the year, and the schedule — in the autumn of 2025.
