The chief expert on refereeing of UAF, Nikolai Rizzoli, commented on the episode of the 30th round match of the Ukrainian championship “Dynamo” — “Kolos” (1:1), in which the winger of Kyiv, Nazar Voloshin, made a shot in the 39th minute, but the ball hit the hand of Kolos defender Andriy Tsurikov.

“A very difficult situation to assess on the field, as the referee is blocked by the body of a player—number nine from Kolos, and the shot at the ball is taken from close range.
When the Dynamo attacker strikes the ball, the left hand of the defender is in a position that blocks the trajectory of the ball and increases the volume of his body, therefore it is subject to punishment. At the same time, the right hand is in a natural position and close to the torso.
The images are not very clear, but it seems that the ball hits the left hand, not the right, and therefore a penalty should have been awarded without any disciplinary sanctions.
Although the images are grainy and not very clear, the grounds for intervention and the described hand positions of the defender were sufficient to recommend a review on the field to give the referee the opportunity to better assess the situation which should have led to the awarding of a penalty,” said Rizzoli.
