The former mentor of Kryvyi Rih "Kryvbas" Yuriy Vernidub shared his impressions of the friendly match between the national teams of Canada and Ukraine (4:2), which took place yesterday in Toronto.
Yuriy Vernidub— A little different from what I wanted. It’s hard to say. The score is not very pleasant. New guys appeared, gave Bondar a chance in defense. But there are still problems somewhere, especially in the first half — it seems that the ball control is not bad, and we attacked, but we fell into the counterattacks of the Canadians.
In the second half, something was also lacking, but it’s good that we scored at least two goals at the end. We didn’t lose too disgracefully. It’s hard to say anything, that’s what the coaching staff is for — they will draw conclusions. They understand better and see what is really happening in the national team. But this is not the kind of game that you can take credit for.
— Overall, how would you assess the development of the national team under Rebrov?
— You know, we are very used to it: we all support the coach, we write and say good things, and somewhere things didn’t go well… Now to say something against the head coach and the coaching staff, I think, is not very good.
The national team exists, the national team is not bad, the main thing is to make the right choice for our coaching staff and move forward. It happens, I don’t see anything terrible here.
Yes, now Sergey Stanislavovych is not having the best of times, but he will figure it out, and the national team will move only forward.
