The universal player of Kyiv’s “Dynamo” Alexander Karavaev briefly commented for Dynamo.kiev.ua on the results of the season-2024/25 for both his team and for himself personally.
Alexander Karavaev. Photo — A. Popov— What score on a 10-point scale would you give “Dynamo” for the season, taking into account performance in domestic tournaments and in European cups?
— Of course, I would like to give it a 10. Even more than that. Because I believe we had a very strong season. At least in the championship. And it’s not just about the championship itself: it’s a great achievement that we weren’t defeated even once. It really deserves a lot of attention. And the fact that 90-95% of our squad are Ukrainians and Dynamo graduates only adds to the significance of such an achievement. It shows that there are quality footballers in Ukraine who can play at a top level.
Of course, there’s also the level of European cups and our results there, which somewhat tarnishes this season. Certainly, we would have liked to perform much better there.
And we also wanted to win the Ukrainian Cup. But a penalty shootout is a lottery. Unfortunately, my shot turned out to be decisive, but not in our favor. That really hit me hard. In short, it’s a pity that we couldn’t win the Ukrainian Cup precisely at the penalty shootout stage.
So summing everything up, I would give the team a score of 8-8.5 for the season. Because, I repeat, we had a very strong and good season.
— What score on a 10-point scale would you give yourself for the season?
— I won’t give myself a score, I don’t like that. But for me as a right defender, this season turned out to be the most productive. Of course, that’s nice. I really had a strong desire to score, to assist, and to do this exactly in those moments when it was needed.
— Whose progress among your teammates impressed you the most, and what exactly did this progress consist of?
— I was impressed by the progress of the whole team. I don’t want to single anyone out. Everyone played at a high level and progressed throughout the season. I believe that we all together passed this distance very well, starting not even from the first round of the championship, but from the first day of the training camp and until the final match of the championship, after which there was the awarding of gold medals.
I think everyone can see how many Dynamo players are currently called up to the national teams, particularly the youth team. We also had debutants in the national team this season.
So I believe our team is on the right track, and everything is going as it should. The progress of both the team and each player is reflected in the results we have achieved.
