Former midfielder of Manchester United and the England national team David Beckham has been included in the list of distinguished figures who this year were awarded knighthoods as part of the royal honors on the occasion of the monarch’s official birthday, writes The Guardian.

Beckham is recognized for his contributions to sports and charity. The famous footballer has played 115 matches for the national team and has won championship titles in four countries.
In 2003, he received the Order of the British Empire 4th class (OBE), after which he expanded his influence far beyond the football field. Since 2005, Beckham has been an ambassador for the UNICEF children’s foundation, and since last year — an ambassador for The King’s Foundation.
As a result of being awarded a knighthood, his wife, designer and former Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham, now officially holds the title Lady Beckham.
