In the 69th minute of yesterday’s match Ukraine — Netherlands at the European Youth Football Championship, our midfielder Anton Tsarenko demanded a penalty after falling in the opponent’s penalty area. However, the referee’s whistle was silent. Former FIFA referee Myroslav Stupar commented on this game moment:

“I would note that this was perhaps not the only ambiguous episode in the match. There was a flank run and a pass from our defender Illia Krupskyi. Perhaps the referee from Greece Vasilis Fotias took a not quite comfortable position and did not clearly see the episode of the duel between the tall Dutch player and the miniature Anton Tsarenko. I lean towards the idea that there was minor contact, but the referee considered that it was not enough to award a penalty.
In my opinion, if yesterday our team had more often conducted such dangerous attacks as this one in the 69th minute, they could have hoped for a better outcome. However, the Ukrainians were inert in attack this time, made elementary mistakes in defense, and therefore justly lost to the Dutch and ended their performance at the Youth Euro in disgrace,” said Stupar.
