English journalist from Goal.com Charles Watts stated that Ukrainian footballer of Arsenal Oleksandr Zinchenko should have played more in the last season.
Oleksandr Zinchenko"Arteta has just lost a lot of confidence in him. Zinchenko should have played more last season. Arteta talks about wanting to have a stronger squad and the possibility of rotation. This argument falls apart a bit when you have a really experienced player like Zinchenko sitting on the bench. I think he could have played a lot more last season, either in midfield or as a left-back. But I really think that Arteta has just lost confidence in him, especially in defense.
When Zinchenko first burst onto this team, he and Jesus radically changed Arsenal. Zinchenko turned the game, nobody really knew what was happening on the field. Opponents took some time to get used to it. In those early months, when opponents were just not ready for it, I think Arsenal really benefited from that. Then everyone adapted and began to punish Zinchenko, using the space on the flank that he was freeing up. He was caught on this many times. And I think eventually Arteta just started losing faith in him.
Then suddenly Lewis-Skelly appeared, who did what Zinchenko was doing from the point of view of moving into the center, but he was also very, very strong defensively. At that point, it was all over for Zinchenko.
But I still think that last season he should have played more, especially in midfield, in the position he plays for the Ukrainian national team. Zinchenko had many opportunities to play there last season, but Arteta just didn’t do it," Watts said to Sports Mole.
