Former goalkeeper of Kyiv’s Dynamo and the national team of Ukraine Oleksandr Rybka, who recently announced the end of his playing career, spoke about his decision to join the coaching staff of Odesa’s “Chornomorets” as a goalkeeper coach.
Oleksandr Rybka— How did the option with “Chornomorets” come about?
— The head coach Oleksandr Kuchер, with whom I have been acquainted for a long time, called me and offered to join the coaching staff as a goalkeeper coach. I didn’t think long and immediately agreed. It’s very nice to join a wonderful club and team!
— You recently ended your playing career. Was it difficult to make that decision?
— The decision was well-considered. I made it back in winter. It was time to pass on my experience to others.
— You have a unique career behind you — the national team, the Champions League, top clubs. What will remain in your memory forever?
— I believe my career was rich and interesting. I am proud of it!
— Who was your role model in football?
— That was Oleksandr Shovkovskyi. I was lucky to play in the same team with him.
— What impression do the goalkeepers of “Chornomorets” make?
— There are three goalkeepers in the team now. All have a great future — the main thing is to work responsibly.
— Is it true that you could have ended up at “Chornomorets” as a player?
— Yes, everything was agreed back in 2022, the club even sent contracts and tickets to Chișinău for me and my family. But we decided to stay in Turkey for the safety of the children.
— What do you want to say to the fans?
— First of all — peaceful skies and peace to our whole nation! And also — support us! The team will do everything for “Chornomorets” to be back in the UPL next season! See you at the stadium!
