As already reported, Donetsk Shakhtar decided to hold their home European Cup matches of the next season in Krakow. However, it turned out that the miners will not host their opponents at the Krakow stadium, which has been repeatedly mentioned by various sources as the "home" European Cup stadium for the Donetsk team in the near future.
City Stadium named after Henryk Reyman in KrakowShakhtar will almost certainly start the European Cup season at the home arena of Krakow’s Wisla - the City Stadium named after Henryk Reyman, writes Polish journalist Piotr Słonka on his Telegram channel.
However, the miners managed to arrange the rental of this stadium not without problems. According to the source, several days ago a dispute arose between Wisla and another Krakow team - Wieczysta - as this arena belongs to the city, and both planned to use it for their home matches in the first Polish league in the 2025/26 season, while Shakhtar categorically did not want to play at a stadium where their opponents are also hosted by two other clubs.
As a result, an agreement was reached yesterday that Wieczysta will play at the City Stadium starting in the spring.
It is also reported that Shakhtar will pay almost 4 million euros for the rental of this arena for several matches (the amount is not exact, as it depends on many factors), a significant part of which will go to Krakow’s Wisla. The miners have already entrusted this club to organize their home European Cup matches.
Let us remind you that in the European Cup season 2025/26, Shakhtar will start from the 1st qualifying round of the Europa League, where they will play against Finnish Ilves. The first match between these teams will nominally be home for the Donetsk team and will take place on July 10, while the return match will be held on July 17.
