IFAB (the organization responsible for maintaining and regulating the rules of football) has proposed changes to the penalty kick execution rule and to expand the situations in which the VAR referee can intervene, reports The Times.

It is proposed to remove the possibility of follow-up on penalties (in case the goalkeeper deflects the ball after a shot from the 11-meter mark, the penalty execution is considered completed).
As for VAR, IFAB believes that this technology should be used to verify the correctness of:
— awarding or not awarding corner kicks;
— the main referee’s decision regarding a second yellow card for a player, which automatically leads to their expulsion.
