On the eve of the announcement by the Polish Football Association (PZPN), Jan Urban was officially appointed as the new head coach of the Polish national team.

The contract with the 63-year-old specialist was signed at the PZPN headquarters, and today the first press conference will take place at the National Stadium in Warsaw.

A former Polish national team forward, who played 57 matches and scored 7 goals, Urban has an impressive coaching resume: championship titles with "Legia" (2013, 2014), as well as work at clubs such as "Lech," "Górnik," "Osasuna," and others. His main task will be to prepare the national team for the qualifying matches of the 2026 World Cup, starting with a match against the Netherlands on September 4, and then a home game against Finland on September 7.

Jan Urban inherits a challenging legacy after the resignation of the previous coach Michał Probierz, who stepped down on June 12, 2025, following a conflict with Robert Lewandowski (stripped of the captaincy) and a loss to Finland (1:2). Urban admits: "There is no time in the national team — every match is very important," thus his debut will take the team "into deep waters" right before the challenges in September.
