Renowned manager and expert Vyacheslav Zakhovailo shared his thoughts on the European Cup matches of Ukrainian clubs that took place on Thursday. Recall that in the Europa League, Donetsk’s Shakhtar defeated Turkish Besiktas (4:2), while Alexandria and Zhytomyr’s Polessia suffered defeats in the Conference League — against Belgrade’s Partizan (0:2) and Andorra’s Santa Coloma (1:2), respectively.

“Shakhtar” looked solid. I want to highlight their balanced play both in attack and, especially, in defense. I won’t sing their praises too soon, but the “miners” left a very good impression.
I expected nothing from “Alexandria.” “Partizan” has shown a weak level in recent seasons. But “Alexandria” was nothing special against them at all.
Zhytomyr!!! It’s hard to find the words. I sincerely pity the president of the club. So much investment and effort has been put in by them. And what comes of it? His local specialists took him for a ride.
Additionally, I’ll share a couple of business conversations with Ukrainian clubs regarding the purchase of their players for European championships. I personally conducted the negotiations. This does not concern our two giants. Provincial clubs cannot understand where they have landed. They are asking for decent money for clowns. In fact, they should still pay extra just to be talked to. Just to keep in mind: the budget of one month of the ‘Polessia’ club is equivalent to three seasons of all clubs in Andorra combined.
P.S. We need to seriously consider the number of clubs participating in the UPL. Eight clubs would be optimal at this time.
