Center-back of Rivne’s Veres Roman Goncharenko commented on the result of the match against Kyiv’s Dynamo in the first round of the Ukrainian championship.
Roman Goncharenko— I believe we studied the opponent’s game well. First of all, we focused on being able to act effectively in defense in the midfield block and conduct rapid counterattacks. In the first half, the Rivne team often threatened the possession of the Dynamo players, but, unfortunately, in the finishing stage, we could not bring the matter to a logical conclusion.
It’s most unfortunate that with this turn of events on the field, the Kyiv team managed to convert their only dangerous moment near our goal before the break. I can’t say it was some sort of sophisticated combination; it was just that our player poorly cleared the ball after a pass to the far post, which the opponent took advantage of.
Similar scenarios unfolded in the second half. The Dynamo players could have increased their lead in the score, but only when we pressed with great forces towards the end of the game and did not always manage to return to our half of the field.
Perhaps the Dynamo players indeed earned a victory with a minimal score, however, if everything had ended in a draw, I think it wouldn’t have been a surprise.
In conclusion, respect to our fans. There were more than 5 thousand of them in the stadium, and we really felt the incredible support of the 12th player,” he said.
