After the unexpected rout in the third qualifying round match of the Conference League, the Hungarian club "Paks" found itself at the center of attention not only from sports media, but also from its own audience. The Ukrainian club "Polissya", which had earlier barely made it past Andorra’s "Santa Coloma", didn’t just win – it crushed its opponent with a score of 3:0 and could have scored many more goals. The painful result was especially stinging in light of the arrogant comments from Hungarian fans before the match: "no names", "a war-torn country", "what European cups do these Ukrainians have?" Now those same Hungarian fans are experiencing a mix of shock, anger, and confusion, admitting that the level of Ukrainian football was underestimated.
Photo: paksifc.huTakaks: I don’t understand how we could lose so passively and embarrassingly to a club whose existence in Hungary we only learned about after the draw? This is a disgrace for Hungarian football.
Baszo: Before the match, all the fans were laughing, saying, "a warring country, an unknown team, they don’t know how to play." And as a result, we were run over like a tractor, leaving no chances for a response in the second leg.
Attila: I’m experiencing cognitive dissonance. How can a team that almost got eliminated by Andorrans dismantle "Paks"? This is a failure. The final score doesn’t even reflect all the disgrace we’ve felt today.
Reznak: Our players seemed to take the field with no desire. But for "Polissya" – every pass was accurate, every attack was fiery. I envy their dedication. If these are "no names", what do we call "Paks," who lost to them? A village team from the 90s?
Nagy: Honestly, no one in Hungary knew where Zhytomyr was before. Now everyone will remember the name of this city and the local team. This match showed how far behind Hungarian club football is. We are decades behind even the modern Ukrainian clubs.
Supek: We laughed at the Ukrainians, and now they are tearing us apart. Nothing teaches history. Why didn’t "Paks" strengthen before the European cups? That was a shame, not a game. It’s clear in this confrontation already.
Vidak: After games like this you stop believing in the development of football in Hungary. Ukraine, with its destroyed stadiums – is still stronger. It could have been 4:0. Five – if it weren’t for the goalkeeper. This is not a defeat. It’s an outrage against our club.
Demeny: No excuses. We lost fairly, without will and dignity. I thought Ukrainian clubs didn’t have normal players because of the war. It turned out, we lack character.
Nem: With such performances – only in the village league. "Polissya" simply tore us apart. Let someone now say that the Ukrainian championship is weak. We were disgraced by far from the strongest club from Ukraine.
Adam: This is what motivation means. They play for their honor, for the honor of their country. And we play for bonuses. That was football of one team. We were just present on the field, not sure why.
Balogh: At the 60th minute, I wanted to turn off the broadcast. But I continued – to suffer until the end. With such a game, we have no place in European cups. I never thought I would say this, but we deserved more conceded goals.
Jogart: But before the match everyone here was hating on UEFA for allowing Ukrainian clubs to play… Now it’s clear why that is. Because even in a warring country, the teams are stronger than in Hungary.
Mate: It’s strange how a Ukrainian club can build the game so competently. It’s clear – it’s not a coincidence. What’s happening with our football? We have been disgraced! In light of this defeat, you realize that "Santa Coloma" would have beaten us as well.
Rosz: A few days ago we were laughing at clubs from Ukraine. Now they are laughing at us. Does that mean we are "no names"? Honestly, after such a defeat, I feel a little ashamed of the words we wrote about "Polissya."
Kekesi: When you watch a match with hope, then see yourself humiliated – it hurts. It’s time to change everything – from strategy to attitude towards opponents. We overestimated ourselves.
Bajnok: Ukraine shouldn’t be in European cups. That’s hypocrisy. If Russians are not allowed, then Ukrainians have no place there either. Against this backdrop, it’s especially regrettable that we lost to a Ukrainian team.
Zeteny: No hard feelings, but their participation is a farce in European tournaments. They play on foreign stadiums, yet say – "home match." It’s ridiculous. We lost, yes. But the very fact of their participation raises questions.
Vabro: "Polissya – is this the new Barcelona? Their level of motivation was such that it seemed they were on some kind of energy drinks. If they had scored everything they could, the score would have been 8:0. And this is no joke.
Gergely: UEFA admits clubs from a warring country, and here’s the result! How is this possible? UEFA are puppets! Ukrainian clubs have no right to compete in European cups.
Toth: War and football are incompatible! Ukrainian clubs spoil European tournaments by their presence. Everyone knows that Hungary and Ukraine do not have the best relations. This is not sports, this is politics.
Barabasi: If UEFA hadn’t allowed Ukrainians into the European Cups, we wouldn’t have lost to Polissya today! I believe that Ukrainian teams have no place in UEFA tournaments until the war is over!
